Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden
| Prof. Marek is one of the leading young scientists in the area of metal-organic chemistry. In Israel he is clearly a star in synthetic organic chemistry and it is foreseeable that he will be soon one of the leading figures in organic chemistry not only in his own country but in the world. The Marek group at the Technion develops of new methodologies for stereoselective and asymmetric synthesis by using organometallic derivatives. During the last few years, he has pioneered several new areas in this field such as the use of sp3 carbenoid for the construction of quaternary stereocenters (one famous example of this reaction is the copper catalyzed four-component transformation). He has also reported the first example of enantioselective catalytic asymmetric carbolithiation of non-activated alkenes. He is a highly regarded guest professor and recently spent one semester in Canada. Ilan Marek is one of the most creative organic chemists. |
